BC Housing provided an update at last nights City Council meeting for supportive housing in Williams Lake.
Council was updated on timelines and current situations for three projects including Elks Hall, Jubilee Place, and Glen Arbor.
The Elks Hall project is expected to be delayed, as Director of Regional Development, Tyler Baker says was caused by flooding on site.
“The impact to the community, in terms of shelter operations, is minimal.” says Baker.
“We’ll continue shelter operations at the Hamilton Inn until we can move to the Elks Hall, so there should not be a break or pause in the provision of shelter operations in Williams Lake.”
Baker told Council the timeline for Elks Hall’s completion looks to be in February, which Council had hoped to have it ready by winter to have more beds available.
As for Jubilee Place, he says they’re in the early stages with design work needing to be done by an architect to better understand the site constraints, what the City expects to see, and what will be feasible operationally.
From there, BC Housing would return to Council with a proposal for number of units, what the building and site would look like, which Baker says would be a couple months away.
Before construction is contemplated, BC Housing would have a robust relocation plan for individuals living at Jubilee Place.
Finally for the Glen Arbor project, he says it’s on track for it’s expected completion late next year.
