There were significant differences between Williams Lake and Quesnel when it came to precipitation amounts and seasonal temperatures for August.
Meteorologist for Environment Canada Brian Proctor said the Quesnel Airport reported 57.8 millimetres of rain and the normal is 46.2, and in Williams Lake 29.9 millimetres fell and the normal is 46.1.
Proctor said temperatures were also different between the two communities last month.
“The mean temperature for both Williams Lake and Quesnel was 17.3 degrees. The normal temperature for Quesnel is 16.4 and for Williams Lake it’s 15.3. For Williams Lake it was the seventh warmest and for Quesnel it was the twenty-third warmest and the records for temperature for Quesnel go back a lot further to 1895 and in Williams Lake they go back to 1961.”
Looking at the first week of September, Proctor noted the typical daytime max temperature is in the 23-24 degree area but as we get closer to the weekend Thursday and Friday will be 29 and 24 by the time we get into Sunday.
He added much of September is going to continue to be fairly warm for the Cariboo and Chilcotin.
“As we moved towards the middle, the end of October, we’ll start seeing temperatures really cool down below what we would expect at that time of year and may see an increase in precipitation.” Proctor said, “Hopefully a bigger snow pack and maybe a little bit cooler conditions which will help us moving forward from a moisture deficit point of view.”
