The South Cariboo Garlic Festival in Lac La Hache has come and gone, and has continued to grow in popularity.
Teresa Wager, who is one of the organizers, says this year’s festival had positive reception from start to finish, as people of all ages enjoyed various activities.
Wager says they surpassed last year’s record setting number of attendees.
“Saturday morning (August 24th) started out a little slow just because I think the weather, people were a little iffy about it, but just like true Caribooers it just got rocking by 11:00am.” says Wager.
“We had a whopping 74 hundred people this year come through our gate. Sunday’s attendance was just astonishing.”
Wager added they had to expand their parking to accommodate the influx of people.
Their new Roughneck Zone was well received by vendors and people, which showcased the region’s popular activities such as fishing and trapping.
She says the zone is expected to make a return, with a goal to have more food trucks and to work with Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School shop class to build a handicap outhouse for next year.
The expected date for the 2025 South Cariboo Garlic Festival is August 23rd and 24th.
