Provincial Government announces new Long-term care home for Quesnel

It’s official.

After months of speculation a new long-term care home is coming to Quesnel.

Health Minister Adrian Dix made the announcement today (Tuesday).

“The new long-term care home in Quesnel marks another step forward in our commitment to providing high quality care for our growing population of seniors in British Columbia. This new home will enable seniors to age with dignity in a community they know close to family and friends.”

The new facility will add 211 beds and replace 67 beds at Dunrovin Park Lodge in downtown Quesnel, for a total of 288 beds.

The home will be located on Roddis Drive in West Quesnel where Cariboo Field currently is, and it will be operated by Providence Living in partnership with Northern Health under a Project Development Agreement.

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in the fall of 2026 and is expected to be ready for residents in late 2028.

Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors Services and Long-Term Care, says “this new long-term care home in Quesnel will strengthen care for seniors, it will be a safe welcoming place, where seniors are able to receive the quality care they need while remaining active in the community they call home.”

The home will be designated as “households,” each accommodating 12 residents, with every resident having a private single-bed room and bathroom.

It will include social and recreational spaces typical at a home, such as living rooms, dining rooms, activity areas, and access to outdoor spaces.

The new facility will also offer a 32-space adult day program designed to support older adults living independently at home.

This program will provide social connection, engaging activities, exercise and health checks for seniors facing health challenges, ensuring they can maintain their independence while receiving essential services to support their health and well-being.

Health Minister Dix hinted at this new facility back in November and Northern Health confirmed in February that the wheels were in motion as they were in the business planning stage for the project.
