Cariboo Off To Rocky Start In The Job Market In 2016

Not a good start to 2016 when it comes to the job market in the Cariboo region.

Andrew Fields, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats-Canada, says the jobless rate was 7.9 percent last month, up from an even 5 percent in January of 2015.

The 7.9 percent equals the unemployment levels that we saw in June and July which were almost three year highs.

Fields says there were more people looking for work as well as less people actually working…76 thousand, down from around 84 thousand a year ago.

He says the Manufacturing industry lost around 3 thousand jobs in the region last month.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
