20..that’s how many wildfires are currently burning throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre.
Fire Information Officer Jeromy Corrigan said 12 are under control, 5 are being held, and 3 are still ranked as out of control.
Corrigan noted over the last week and a half the Fire Centre has seen more than 20 wildfires being deemed out.
We asked Corrigan if they’ve seen any new ones start up since the long weekend.
“Over the course of the last week and a half crews have been outstanding throughout the entire Cariboo Fire Centre. We’ve seen more than 20 wildfires actually be deemed out, so significant progressive made by BC Wildfire Crews.”
Since August 1st Corrigan noted there were eight new wildfires and the good news is seven of which have already been called out.
He’s added that there is still one and it’s currently being held.
Corrigan said the Antler Creek wildfire, just East of Quesnel that started back on July 20th, hasn’t seen any substantial growth since July 27th.
Because of that, Corrigan noted that last night (Thursday) the status of that fire went from being out of control to now being held.
“For those who don’t know, being held just means the wildfire is projected, based on fuel, weather conditions, and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary that it’s currently in.”
