Cooling Stations in place as weekend heat wave approaches

Parts of the Cariboo will be preparing cooling stations for the upcoming heat wave this weekend.

Temperatures are forecast to reach the 30 degree mark, prompting the heat alert response protocol from the City Williams Lake.

There will be six cooling stations available in Williams Lake including the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex pool, Seniors Activity Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association, Salvation Army, Cariboo Friendship Society, and the Women’s Contact Society.

The City also provides heat preparation and safety tips, which can be found on their website, along with the cooling station times.

Quesnel’s West Fraser Centre will be established as a cooling station if Environment Canada issues an extreme heat alert level 2 for the area.

100 Mile House will not have cooling stations available, as Mayor Maureen Pinkney said they haven’t had requests to implement them in the past few years.
