There’s been no growth in a lightning-caused wildfire 80 kilometers northwest of Quesnel since its discovery on Wednesday.
Cariboo Fire Centre Information Officer Emily Epp says firefighters and heavy equipment operators worked very hard yesterday evening to get the blaze near Pelican Lake under control.
“They were able to establish about 300 meters of control lines in front of the fire. We also had 4 air-tankers, 2 skimmer aircraft, and 4 helicopters also working on the fire yesterday.”
“As a result, we haven’t seen any new growth and the fire did not grow overnight.”
Epp says there will be 60 personnel, 4 pieces of heavy equipment, and 4 helicopters working on the fire today with additional support personnel, an Incident Management Team and more heavy equipment arriving later in the day.
The fire remains an estimated 250 hectares in size with no threat to structures in the area at this time.
