A group calling themselves the T’silhquot’in Nation have put up a notice of seizure from her Majesty Queen Dorothy Boyd at the closed Kwaleen Elementary School in Williams Lake.
The Universal Supreme Court document of the T’silhquot’in Nation also demands that School District 27 cease the sales and suspend ownership of Glendale School, McLeese Lake School, Poplar Grove School, 100 Mile Junior Secondary School, Anahim Lake, and Glencoe school as they fall on T’silhquot’in territory.
Despite not being able to get comment from the T’silhquot’in Nation, we do know that the document was issued on March 15th and that the group has no affiliation with the Tsilhqot’in Nation according to TNG (Tsilhqot’in National Government) Tribal Chair and Chief of the Tl’etinqox (Anaham) First Nation, Joe Alphonse.
We spoke with School District 27 Superintendent, Mark Thiessen on the school seizure from the T’silhquot’in Nation meanwhile.
He says he cannot say much except that the school board’s claim to the land is legally recognized and that rent is still expected from the current tenants of Kwaleen Elementary School.
The T’silhquot’in Nation state at the end of the document that current tenants of the Glendale and Kwaleen schools may retain occupancy, but that contracts must be transferred to the new landlord, Queen Dorothy Boyd of the T’silhquot’in Nation along with monthly rent payments starting April 2015.
