The community of Likely in general, is fairly supportive of the idea of Mt. Polley reopening, says Imperial Metals Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
Steve Robertson, says there was a great deal of support from community members following last night’s community meeting in Likely.
Robertson adds that it is unfortunate that some individuals do not want to take the time to read the reports, research, and conclusions.
Mt. Polley had posted an annual loss of $35 million dollars for 2014 mainly due to the mine’s operations having been brought to a standstill following the August 4th breach.
Robertson says he wants to focus on the job and work that is being done at Mt Polley.
Majority of the work that went on over the winter months was the reconstruction of the channel at Hazeltine Creek, according to Robertson.
He says a lot of work going into entering spring will be the re-vegetation of the stream banks through grass seeding and planting willow spears.
Mt Polley’s permit application for a temporary restart can be viewed on the Ministry of Environment’s website and will also be made available at the Williams Lake Public Library.
Further community meetings are scheduled to take place later this month including Williams Lake on April 22.
