Recreational boaters in the South Cariboo are being asked to please stay out of the way of helicopters and water bombers.
Cariboo Regional District Chair Al Richmond…
“There are some recreational boaters that are out on Horse Lake and Lac La Hache in particular and to a lesser degree Watson Lake and they’re getting in the way of the water bombers and helicopters and preventing them dropping, from picking up the water on the lake and then dropping it on the fires.”
Richmond says not only is it dangerous for both the boaters and the pilots, in some cases they are having to turn around and do another approach which is delaying their fire fighting efforts.
He says the other issue is enforcement as RCMP and conservation officers are being taken away from their regular duties.
