Quesnel City Council has begun the process of preparing for the legalization of marijuana.
Director of Development Services Tanya Turner…
“It’s recommended that Council direct staff to amend policy in the upcoming Master Land Use Plan to allow medical marijuana production facilities in the Agricultural Land Reserve and Light Industrial zone and to work with the Policy and Bylaw Committee to discuss the city’s role with cannabis production in buildings with respect to the proposed Maintenance Bylaw.”
Council also directed staff to work with the Policy and Bylaw Committee to prepare for the eventual legalization of cannabis.
Councillor Ed Coleman suggested a strategic planning session on the issue.
Concerns were raised about the potential smell coming from a residence that is growing medical marijuana and there were also questions about whether municipalities would benefit from the taxation, possibly getting money from the Federal Government along the lines of the gas tax.
