Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive making its return to Williams Lake this weekend

The Williams Lake Fire Department will be hosting their Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive this weekend.

Crews will be out shaking a boot starting tomorrow (September 20th) from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at various locations in the City including McDonalds, Tim Hortons, BC Liquor Store, Save-On-Foods, Canadian Wholesale, Canadian Tire, Walmart and FreshCo.

Williams Lake Fire Department member and Region Advisor for Muscular Dystrophy for the Cariboo, Dereck Sulentich talks about the work being done to help those with the disease.

“The idea behind the boot drive is to raise funds for muscular dystrophy in hopes of finding a cure.” says Sulentich.

“In the meantime, the goal is to help people that are afflicted with neuromuscular disorders to better their quality of life and to raise awareness.”

Sulentich says the boot drive is something that happens across North America, with muscular dystrophy being firefighters choice of charity since 1954.

He says last year they managed to raise around $13,000 dollars, with this year’s goal at $10,000.

The boot drive will also be taking place on Saturday and Sunday at the same locations from noon to 5:00pm.
